    Condition f ^ very marked improvement has taken place in the general the Patients health and conduct of the patients (many cases of long f;omLondon standing mental disease) removed from London, The invi¬ gorating influence of the pure air and water of Hayward’s Heath has given light and colour to many who on admission presented a worn and debilitated appearance; while the order and discipline of the Establishment have reduced into harmony and good conduct some of the most violent and unpromising cases of insanity which the Medical Superin¬ tendent ever met with in practice. The benufv also of the site of the Asvlum, looking out on the free downs, which are ever changing their distance and their shape, as the lights and cloud-shadows sail over them, and over the graceful forms of whose endless variety of slopes the eye wanders unarrested by abruptness, with an embracing feeling of fulness and a restful satisfaction to the pure sense of Form,* lias not been without its calming influence on many of the Patients, and has, in several instances, been the subject of their conversation with the Medical.
