    As there appeared to be a demand for Aged Persons Bungalows and small two-bed roomed houses in the Farn- eombe District, the Town Council decided to erect ten of each of these on the Silo Wood Estate at Northbourne, and building will commence early in 1939 Overcrowding.—Six cases of overcrowding occurred during the year. Four were abated as follows :— Obtained larger (private) house, 1. Obtained larger (council) house, 1. Families living with parents obtained separate private houses, 2. The two remaining cases will be dealt with as soon as sufficient large houses—Council or privately owned—be- come available. Existing Housing.—House-to-house inspection under the Housing and Public Health Acts revealed defects requiring attention in 116 houses of 194 inspected for the purpose. Notices for the repair of these were served and re-visits made to inspect the work carried out. One unfit house was closed voluntarily by the owner. No formal closures or demolitions were effected during the year. The six old cottages closed voluntarily by the owners some time ago, following action by the Sanitary Inspector under the Housing Acts, all form parts of other buildings and demolition is practically impossible whilst the adjoin- ing properties remain in use.
