Mayor, Radies and Gentlemen, I have the honour to present my Annual Report on the liealtli ^.nd sanitary conditicns of the County Borough of Bourneinoutli for ' tie year 1955, the seventy-seventh in the series. The birth rate was 19.73 per 1,09(1 of the population, compared i; ith 11.04 per 1,099 in 1954. This is the lowest rate since 1949, htid the post-war increase, which reached its peak in 194() witli a fjUte of 16.03 per 1,909, has now practically declined to its pre-war I’vel. t The general death rate was 16.15 per 1,999 of tlie po])ulation, ^hich when adjusted by the Registrar Generars comparability jd ctor gave a corrected death rate of 19.34 per 1,999. These are fe-gher death rates than in 1954 (15.36 per 1,999, adjusted to 9.S3 ir 1,000) but as will be rioted from the detailed statistics of mortalily ||omparatively few deaths occurred within the younger age groups.
