Description

Hundi (or trade voucher) for an amount of opium (in this instance 27 cheets), dated 9 April 1903. A type of bill of exchange raised by an Indian merchant to finance trade. The Mandsaur Opium Agency certified the value of the farmer's opium crop, the hundi was sold to the Bank of Bombay who would have been reimbured in due course upon sale of the opium. It has an engraved duty stamp of 3 rupees and the profile of Edward VII in purple.
