Reproductions of two photographs published in Evans-Pritchard, E. E: <i>Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic Among the Azande</i>, Oxford, The Clarendon Press, 1937. The Azande are an ethnic group of North Central Africa. Photographs of the two plates were acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1938 (accession number PHO 10946 and PHO 10947). One photograph shows medicines handing from a granary to ensure a prosperous and peaceful feast. The other shows an axe head driven into the ground amind plants to prevent rain from falling during a feast.
