Book of receipts.
The receipts are mainly for cookery, but there are numerous medical and domestic receipts.
There are additions by other hands.
The mutilated leaf contains two copies of verses, headed on the verso 'Madam Roda [sic] Clifords [sic] song'. This lady was the seventh daughter of Sir Thomas Clifford, 1st Baron Clifford of Chudleigh [1630-1673].
On the first leaf is written 'Mrs. Mary Chantrell's Book of Receipts January the 16th 1690'. Below, in another hand, 'Mr William Hockenhull 1693'. Above these, in pencil, by a 19th cent. hand, 'James Darbyshire given him by Mrs Bear of Olchard'.
