About this work

Description

This campaign was to try and stop the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act that was passed in 1990. This Act reduced the time limit for abortions down to 24 weeks from 28. However it takes out of the Abortion Act, the Infant Life (Preservation) Act of 1929, which created the 28 week limit and penalised doctors in court if they did not observe this limit. It now allows abortions on the ground of serious risk to the health or life of the woman, or serious foetal abnormality, without an upper limit and with no criminal sanctions against doctors.

This file includes a copy of the Act, leaflets about demonstrations, several signed petitions against the Act, and a photograph.
