About this work

Description

The Sultan's summer palace at Dolmabahçe. This was probably destroyed in the 19th century, and replaced by the present Dolmabahçe Palace in 1853, under Abudl Mecit. The print shows the summer palace in all its pomp: domed and in Ottoman palace style, probably made from marble in order to keep people cool during summer. It is guarded by guards even from sea side. A boat which is rowed by local boatmen carries foreign artists who draw the summer palace from the sea
