About this work

Description

Watercolour drawing showing an oedematous swelling of the toes due to an unknown cause. The patient, a man aged 50, had the toes of both feet swollen. The affection began in the left foot five years, and in the right foot one year previously. No filariae were found in the blood, and no cause could be discovered to account for the condition. Drawn by Bernard Beryl Riviere, whilst a student at St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School.
