    tached to its capsule, as to bear its weight with ease when suspended out of the water. On the opposite side of the lens there is a smaller ligament of the same kind. The great body of the lens, inclosed in a capsule of almost tendinous consistence, after remaining some weeks in spi- rits, splits spontaneously into concentric lamellae, and deep rents in the direction of its axis, and separates easily into coarse fibres having for the most part the same direction.
