Polio; halt morocco; 't.) 6,2: Panis; 1344, £1 10s The illustrations include some curious and interesting examples of playing cards, on some of which the crescent moon figured, as a variant to the heart, club, ‘etc. There are illustrations of the earliest known cards, depicting various mythological deities, the Muses, allegories, coloured reproductions of playing cards, etc., and an instructive history of this pastime which dates back to the fourteenth | century, but the precise origin of which is still unknown and the subject of a long controversy amongst authorities.
