Description

Dutch translation by Isaac Titsingh of two Japanese herbals; Qua ji of versameling van Planten en gewassen Bloemen en Kruyden, translated from the Japanese work Kai written by Shimada Mitsufusa (島田充房) and Ono Ranzan's (小野蘭山) Japanse Naamen van de in Japan groeyende Boomen, struyken, heesters, planten en kruijden. There are additional titles given which describe both translated works; on the spine of the binding, Exposé du Livre des Fleurs Traduit du Japonais en Hollandais P.M.Titzing, and on the manuscript itself, Kwaji of Kruydboek.

Issac Titsingh (1744-1812) lived in Japan as head of the Dutch factory at Deshima between 1779-1780 and 1781-83.
