About this work

Description

Collection of medical receipts, prescriptions, notes on materia medica, etc. The second fly-leaf at the beginning is inscribed 'W. Stone January 1836', and a number of entries are in the first person, initialled 'W.S.'. The compiler is probably Dr. William Stone of Leighton Buzzard, who died in 1852. On p. 203 is a receipt for a drink 'of my own! I have called the compound "Gingerade". W.S.' The earliest date given for this word in the Oxford English Dictionary is 1882. Produced in Leighton Buzzard.

Physical description

1 volume 16 ll. (last bl.). + pp. 19-314. 4to. 19 × 16 cm. Original vellum binding. Pp. 1-18 and some leaves at the end have been torn out. The 16 ll. at the beginning contain an index on sheets of slightly smaller size. The paper is water-marked 1835, and the latest date found in the text is 1837 (p. 266).
