    N° 28,687 A.D. 1908 Date of Application, 30th Dec., 1903 Complete Specification Left, 30th Aug., 1904—Accepted, 6th Oct1904 PROVISIONAL SPECIFICATION. *4 Improved Construction of Supporting Sock or Pad for use in Boots by Persons having Flat Feet or Weak Ankles.” I, Edgar Jones, of 32 and 34, Arcade, Boscombe, Hampshire, Boot and Shoe Maker, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows: — The object of this invention is to construct a supporting sock or pad for use in boots by persons having flat feet or weak ankles. 5 For the purpose of this invention I take a curved piece of metal and rivet or otherwise secure on its inside a piece of leather which may only be shaped to form a pad, or be shaped to form a sock fitting the entire sole and heel of the boot or shoe. The curved metal piece is situate that it fits the hollow and side portion of ](; the foot, and the leather at that part is covered with a patch of india rubber or other resilient material chamfered towards the edges to be flush thereat with the leather, and this resilient material is preferably covered with chamois leather, the whole being then covered with thin leather on both sides to finish up. The curved portion or pad lias one side standing well up and the pad or 15 resilient portion being of arched shape fits in the small of tJie foot just under the instep and so acts as a support thereto, thus giving great benefit to persons having flat feet or weak ankles, causing the foot to assume its proper shape. The pad or the sock may be secured to the boot or shoe if desired and material other than leather may he employed. 20 Hated this 30th day of December 1903. R.
