About this work
Description
From a folder inscribed "Thalidomide/L'pool enquiry", "Thalidomide consumption. Doctors' notes" and "Research into the conclusions of similar findings with W. Lenz".
Returns from Smithells' mailshot to GPs of patients whose recent pregnancies had resulted in malformations. Dated 14th December 1961, the first set of letters asked specifically about Distaval prescriptions, dates and doses. Subsequent mailings went out on 5th February and 14th May 1962 (and in between), requesting similar information but with added emphasis on all drugs prescribed.
Includes tabled results, child development charts, correspondence about arrangements for home visits and listings for proposed interviews. There is also a list of 'positive' and 'negative' histories, referring presumably to thalidomide consumption during the early months of pregnancy, compiled c.1995.
