These papers were given to the library at Wellcome Collection by various Secretaries-General and other officers and staff of the Union between 1985 and 2011.

Founded in 1959 as a section of the International Union of Physiological Sciences, the International Union of Pharmacology (IUPHAR) became an independent organisation in 1965. It changed its name to the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology in 2006. Its main objective is to foster international co-operation in pharmacology.
