About this work

Description

The first in a two-part series in which the Maudsley Hospital allow their pioneering psycotherapeutic work with children to be filmed. This part features two boys suffering with OCD. The first is 8-year-old Danny who has a man in his head called Idiota who tells him to do horrible things and threatens him. Clinical Psychologist Hilary Mack is treating him and believes that Idiota is actually the voice of OCD. The second boy is 15-year-old Jack who has the most typical form of OCD - an obsession with perfection and cleanliness. Child psychiatrist Isobel Heyman who started the only specialist clinic for children with OCD at the Maudsley treats Jack. In both cases we follow the therapy sessions at the clinic and see how they affect life in the boys' homes. This unsensational look at psychiatric problems in children provides a rare and informative insight into the darker sides of a child's mentality.
