Description
This documentary programme looks at decision-making. Every day we make between 2000 to 10,000 decisions from large to small, most of them without realising. We hear about how inattentive we are generally in our everyday lives. Professor Daniel Kahneman hypothesised that we have two ways of decision-making; fast and slow. Mostly we are in a fast, automated mode of decision-making which he calls system one. In system two, we are slow, deliberate, logical and rational. He believes that there is something of a battle between the two - we often use system one which means we frequently make systematic mistakes or cognitive biases rather than stopping to think rationally. This can lead to smoking, impulsive spending, succumbing to temptation etc. We see an experiment which combines novices and trained analysts who have to work against a fictitional planned terrorist attack.
