About this work

"I have never liked talking about my mental health and still don't. But if you don't let it out it builds and rises and slowly but surely you are in a vat of tar and it doesn't seem like you can get out. (The tar is my diagnosed depression and borderline personality disorder if you haven't worked that analogy out yet). This zine is my way of talking about it. I started writing it hoping to just create a 'how to' to cope with depression. This was perhaps a little naive of me. I can't really dispense advice or coping skills without sharing how I came to need such tools, I feel like that would be insincere. This zine is also for you, because I know how sometimes its impossible to even start to describe how you feel, but I have this feeling that you will get there one day and get out of that tar."--From introduction.
