About this work

Description

The first in a two-part series looking at how non-Western people are using cosmetic surgery to 'de-racialise' themselves - this part features surgery on the body. We meet Sy, a South East Asian man who, at 5,2" is well below the Western average height for a man. He considers radical leg-lengthening surgery under Dr Guichet in Marseilles. The surgery can increase height by up to 4" and costs around £40,000. 29-year-old Frederica is Jamaican and wants a breast reduction to look like Victoria Beckham. 32-year-old Sun Wong has the typical chest size of a Chinese woman but she feels flat-chested in Western society and wants a breast augmentation. We see both women being measured by consultants and their surgical procedures are shown in detail. Dr Lee at the Adams clinic talks about penis-lengthening surgery on South East Asian men, we see this surgery. We also see Iranian-born Mattin having laser hair removal on his back.
