Description
Visualisation of endoplasmic reticulum (e.r.) during
Drosophila development, using the fluorescent
lipophilic dicarbocyanine dye DiI. The animation
shows the e.r. in a portion of the embryo starting at
metaphase in cycle 10 and ending at interphase in
cycle 12. During mitosis the signal is strongest at
spindle poles, but no in the spindle itself. At
telophase, there is accumulation of DiI at the
midbody. During telophase the DiI signal becomes
dispersed through the periplasm. Nuclei do not
take up the dye, they remain as black areas with
the reticulum moving around them.
