Description
A Graeco-Roman arcade on a waterfront. Left, oriental traders disembark with Persian or Turkish rugs; right, purveyors of pottery present their wares; centre, women are adorned with fine clothing and jewellery. The building itself may illustrate the arts of masonry, architecture, metalwork, etc., and a boat in the foreground to navigation, ship-building etc. In the background, a prospect of a citadel (the acropolis of Athens?)
