    lv brevity and simplicity of the sentences will not admit of being rendered in any other manner,’ This translation is not presumed to be worthy of being put in competition with the other, a work prepared with great accuracy and elegance, such as possibly may have emanated from the Latin author himself. The arrangement of the edition has been adopted from à desire to accommodate all classes of Junior Medical Latin Readers. Some stand in need of neither ordo nor trans- lation, and may consult the text alone. Some derive suffi- cient assistance from an ordo or interpretation ; whilst others, less proficient, using a translation without an ordo, either from idleness or inattention, might mistake the words con- strued, and when called upon to translate without. such assistance, would expose numerous errors and absurdities. It is by no means the wish of the Translator, by thus lending his assistance in this little work, to deprive gentle- men of the fruits to be reaped from a regular and systematic course of study, which should be commenced from an early period ; but to those who have not enjoyed such advantages, Such aid cannot be useless or improper; for if they can acquire in a shorter period a knowledge of the small allotted portion of Latin Medical Authors, they will be enabled to devote more time to the practical parts of their profession ; the most essential, but universally the most neglected, during their attendance on the Medical Practice of the Hospitals. That Students may not misapply, but profit by the inten- tion of this little effort, and endeavour perfectly to compre- hend the task they undertake, is the constant and earnest desire of the Translator.
