Description

The Aurelian walls built by the emperors Aurelian and Probus defended the seven hills of Rome between the 3rd century AD and the 19th century. The print shows a base of triangular bricks, topped with a flat coping of terracotta tiles each of which bears the maker's mark identifying the furnace

I Piranesi seems to use "tavolozza" (usually a painter's palette) to mean "tavolone" (meaning, among other things, a slab of stone)
