William Pitt's motion for a grant of 210,000 pounds to discharge debts on the civil list was discussed in debates of 5 and 6 April 1786. The first of many allusions to the supposed miserliness of the King and Queen

The King and Queen are attended by their band of pensioners laden with money. They welcome the additional bags of money being offered by Pitt. Meanwhile a limbless sailor with two wooden legs is seated before them seeking in vain for relief
