About this work

Description

Bible. O.T. Genesis 1.6-8 God dispels clouds towards the left and right. The same design had been published ca. 1587 by Johann Sadeler after Maerten de Vos with the lettering "Coelestes orbes, convexa per ardua, firmat, Dextra potens: ab aquis dividit agmen aquae. Ambrosii supra latices densantur: at infra Terreni sistunt: utraque facta Dei." (His powerful right hand strengthens the heavenly spheres through steep curves: it divides the column of water from the waters. Above the immortal liquids are thickened, but those below remain as earthly. Both are made by God)
