About this work

Description

Annotations sur le Calendrier naturel et cabalistiq[ue]. By an un-named commentator. Interleaved is a copy, cut up into eleven strips, of the engraved broadside 'Calendarium naturale magicum perpetuum', published by J. T. de Bry (according to B.M. Catalogue, c. 1620), set out by Grosschedel after the original designs of Tycho Brahe made in 1582. A note on the tenth Table states: 'Nota qu'il n'y'a pas de 11me'. n the extreme left hand panel of the Twelfth strip is a note by the same hand as that of the MS. which reads 'Lath [sic] a fait la proj[ection] deuant Mr delaroche et du viconte [sic] du vasse à St Sene [or Seve] en 1650 mort en angleterre'. The first word may possibly be meant for 'L'autheur', that is either the writer of the MS. or Grosschedel himself, for this inscription is written immediately over his name where it appears on the broadside. On the first leaf of the MS. is a note by the original hand 'Cecy est de Paracelse'. o trace of any such work by Paracelsus has been found, and it is not in Sudhoff's Bibliography. In any case, Paracelsus died in 1541, and Tycho Brahe was not born until 1546.
