![f w 3 — ^ “Tliis yonug ]ady, who has been wfU educated, and Y is of a most generous and mild disposition, being accom- panied liither by her parents, gave me the following account of herself. That for this tw'^elve month past she had been seized with freqr^nt despondency, involun- tary laughing and crying fits , and slight convulsions; that an insatiable Iiunger frequently befell her, which lobliged her to eat privately several times a day, that in general her feet Were coldand her body bloated, her courses regular, but that she felt lierself very much de- bilitated after them; on maturely considering on her bodily constitution , the symptoms, and the wdiole series of morbid sensations , I suspected indeed an fieredi- tary morbid sensibility of the nerves, and chose a treat- ment principally from the vegetable kingdom, thinking very volatile animal and mineral remedies, lefs fit and 'safe for a subject of such unconmion sensibility and irri- tabihf^ and thus prescribed powders of Valerian, Orange- leaves and Zinkflowers, to be taken in a saturated infu- sion of Orangeleaves , and the same to be drank after them; together with seabathing during the sumhierseasoh, and two glafses of Pynnontwater in the morning. Tliis treatment being uninterruptedly persevered in for se\ eral weeks, caused the unvoluntary laughing, crying and convulsive fits, to return lefs frequently 5 but thdn she was seized with the epideiniical constitutional dis- order, the dysentery, which after continuing seven days without the least symptom of nervous affection, was cured by the application of remedies composed of mild mucila- ginous involvents and diaplioretics.
