James Plush is the central character in The diary of C. Jeames de la Pluche, written by William Makepeace Thackeray and first published in Punch. A manservant to a banker in Berkeley Square, London, he makes money from railway speculation and changes his name to Jeames de la Pluche

Impression catalogued (Wellcome Library) bears further lettering in pen and ink: "(July 1845) (The man wot made £30,000 in railways by speculating from his master's House in "Buckley Square" & answering his own references!)"
