    REPORT OF THE PATHOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT. 1. During the year 1937 802 pathological specimens were received from the operation theatre for microscopic examination. This is an increase of 73 specimens, as compared with last year’s pathological work ; this is the highest record of speci¬ mens received in the Department for 30 years. 2. Of these 802 specimens, 725 sections were prepared for micro¬ scopic reports. This involved the preparation of a greater number of sections than in any previous year. 3. The total number of Morbid specimens added to the Hospital’s Gynaecological Museum was 27; there are also 18 pails con¬ taining wet specimens for examination and teaching pur¬ poses. The Museum now contains the grand total of 485 well-prepared specimens all mounted in glass receptacles, and each jar is provided with a permanent number. 4. During the course of the year 1937 increased use of the Museum has been made by Post Graduates from the United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Egypt, India, the Continent of Europe, also from China and Japan, who have come to this country in order to take the higher examinations. Medical students from the large Medical Schools have also made good use of the Museum for studying for their final examinations. 5. Wet specimens, also mounted museum specimens and micro¬ scopic slides, have been sent out to the examiners at the following Colleges :— 1. The British College of Obstetricians and Gynaecolo¬ gists. 2. The University of London. 3. The Conjoint Board. 4. The Society of Apothecaries. 6. During- the year a typewritten card index, giving the micro¬ scopic appearance of each slide and a short descriptive clinical history of each case was prepared. 7. Eleven (11) specimens have been dismantled, cleaned, and re¬ mounted in flesh colour-preserving fluid. 8. In addition, special section work has been carried on dealing with the phases of the menstrual cycle.
