    Examinations of milk are carried out by Messrs. Harper Adams Agricultural College, Newport, Salop. I append below Mr. J. E. Preston’s report, which he has kindly submitted, on the samples of various articles taken within the Borough during the year: — REPORT UNDER THE FOOD AND DRUGS (ADULTERATION) ACT, 1928. 1.—I have the honour to report that during the year ended 31st December, 1933, 116 samples were taken in the Borough of Nuneaton, of the following articles: — Milk . ... 65 Cream *.. ... ... ... ... 5 Ice Cream ... ... ... ... ... 5 Butter ... ... ... ... ... 7 Cheese ... ... .. ... ... 2 Honey ... ... ... ... ... 1 Boiled Sweets ... ... ... ... 8 Brawn ... ... ... ... ... 2 Potted Meat ... ... ... ... ... 2 Sausages ... ... ... ... ... 7 Salmon Paste ... ... ... ... 1 Ground Almonds ... ... ... ... 2 Ground Ginger ... ... ... ... 2 Cinnamon ... ... ... ... ... 1 Gin ... ... ... ... ... ... 1 Whiskey ... ... ... ... ... 5 116 samples 2.—107 of the samples proved to be genuine, and 9 samples were unsatisfactory, as follows : — (1) P20. Milk, deficient of 6% of fat (official). (2) P28. Milk, deficient of 6% of fat (official). (3) P52. Milk, deficient of 3% of fat (official). Samples P20 and P28 were both taken from the same retailer on different dates, P52 being taken, a few days later, from the farmer who supplied him. As the deficiency in each case was probably due to not mixing the milk at the farm, the persons concerned were cautioned. (4) P206. Milk, deficient of 3% of fat (official). (5) A3. Milk, deficient of 13% of fat (official). (6) D53. Milk, deficient of 6% of fat (official). The facts, with regard to these three samples, were similar to those referred to in the last paragraph. Cautions were given in these cases also. (7) D51. Milk, deficient of 3% of fat (official). Vendor cautioned. (8) D2. Boiled Sweets, 192 parts per million of Sulphur Dioxide (Informal).
