Description

Bible, O.T., II Samuel, 1. King David rests his head in his hand as he contemplates the fate of kings. His crown is placed on a plinth, his harp stands behind him, and the messenger bringing King Saul's crown and sceptre looks up at him with concern. On the front of the plinth is a bas-relief showing King Saul falling on his sword. David thinks "How are the mighty fallen!" (II Samuel. 1.19-17)
