Description
Letter from Professor Joseph Wright, MA, Oxford, to Dr Jevons, asking for a testimonial to support his candidature for the professorship of Comparative Philology at Oxford University, following the death of former incumbent (Friedrich) Max Muller (1823-1900), Anglo-German orientalist and comparative philologist. Also states the importance of obtaining the professorship since while working on the dialectical dictionary he has had no time for other work and has spent all his considerable savings.
