    r [ Vi ] I / on the authority of fome eminent pra&itioner, whofe par- tiality to a particular remedy, has been grounded on a long experience of its good efFefts, and whofe name fur- nilhcs a fort of fanftion for its introdu&ion. In the nomenclature, as flrift an attention is paid as the cafe would admit, to the plan very properly purfued by the London College, but, in fome few cafes, as the reader will readily perceive, it has been found impra&i- cable. Since the practice of furgery unavoidably embraces many of the remedies of the phyfician, it has alfo been found neceffary to pay a degree of attention to them; but this is done to no farther an extent^ than the cufloms of medical furgery may be fuppofed to warrant. To all the formula; direftly taken from the College, a diftinguifhing mark has been affixed. The more operofe of thefe, as the chemical preparations, &c. are merely named, and their ufes, in a concife way, pointed out. The more pharma- ceutical compofitions, as the collyria, liniments, unguents, ckc. are detailed, and their mode of application fpoken of. Laftly, it may be proper to obferve, that Cheseeden’s Short EJfay towards a Pharmacopoeia Chirurgica, annexed to Le Dran's Operations, furnilhed the general hint for the pre- fent publication, which, it is hoped, will be found of fome utility to the furgical pra&itioncr.
