Also known as

Previous title, replaced October 2023 : Metemma, Ethiopia: soldiers treating a trooper with severe sunstroke. Watercolour drawing.

Description

"A case of sun-stroke at Metemmeh. The death of Private Bishop of the 21st Lancers who succumbed to the effects of the sun was an indication of the intense keenness of every man in that fine regiment to get to the front. Bishop was sick when he arrived at Atbara [?] camp but he refused to report himself, and started with the column next day. On arriving at the first halting-place he fell down unconscious, and though every effort was made to restore him he died on the following morning. Drawn by Wal. Paget from a sketch by our special artist W.T. Maud."--The graphic, loc. cit.
