    EXPLANATION OF THE DISTINCTIONS OF TYPE EMPLOYED IN THE FOLLOWING LIST. Ordinary Members, printed in Small Roman [as George Armstrong]. Corresponding Members, printed in Small Italic [as William Babington\ Honorary Members by election, printed in Small Capitals [as William Cullen]. To the names of those who had been previously Ordinary Members the date of election is affixed [ as Benjam. Rush (1785)]' Honorary Members by Succession (confined to an early period of the Society, terminating in 1775), have a Circle prefixed [as “John Straton]. Annual Presidents, printed in Capital Letters [as THOMAS SMITH], N.B.—With a view to uniformity, the early dates have been reduced to the New Style, established in the British Islands in the year 1752- To restore the original Dates, therefore, eleven days must be subtracted from the printed Dates, down to that year inclusive; thus, Saturday, December 7, 1737, N.
