About this work

Description

Large green white ribbed vegetable leaf and small pale grass-like seeds. Grown for its vitamin-rich edible leaves which are also eaten by beetles and other garden pests. They have also been dried, cured and smoked like tobacco. Pulped leaves have been used as an emollient. The seeds contain and edible oil. Shows a wild Garden lettuce which is no longer low and compact, but with budding tall stems.
