The morning rose, what shall poor Harpax do! He came, he lov'd, enjoy'd the nymph 'tis true. All that he wish'd he had, but thinks at last, Tis mighty hard to pay for pleasure past... P. Mercier pinx. I. Faber fecit. 1744 Lettering continues: But hard or not, his Cloe's constant rule, To drain the purse when e'er she charms the fool, And in his turn poor Harpax now must prove What many a fool can tell, the curse of lawless love.
