About this work

Description

In 1795 the Prince Regent married Princess Caroline of Brunswick (Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel) and forced the government in 1806 to accept an inquiry into her conduct (i.e. adultery), but serious charges against her were not proved. In 1820 the Cabinet introduced a bill to dissolve the king's marriage and thereby deprive the Queen of her title. The inquiry which this print shows lasted from August to November 1820 and the bill was passed in the House of Lords by a small majority
