About this work
Description
This film looks at the global efforts to combat malaria. The journey starts in Palm Beach, Florida where the staff of the Health Department are working to control an unexpected outbreak of the disease. The origin, transmission and control of the disease and the issues surrounding control of the mosquito are explored. Back in the UK, Professor Adrian Hill, Oxford University, has been working for the last 10 years on the search for a malaria vaccine. He travels to The Gambia, where the largest ever field trial of one of his vaccines is being conducted. Economist Jeffrey Sachs is campaigning to persuade wealthy governments to contribute more to the fight against malaria.
