    REPORT FOR 1879. The Committee of the Bourton-on-the-Water Cottage Hospital have the pleasure to submit their annual lleport. On the 1st January, 1879, three patients remained from 1878, thirty-six were admitted, making a total of thirty-nine under treatment during the year. Of these thirty-two were either cured or relieved, two died, and five remain at this date. The average daily number of beds occupied was five, and the average time each patient stayed in Hospital was between 50 and 60 days, owing to one or two very protracted surgical cases. Patients were received from the following places:—Barrington, Bledington, Bourton-on-the-Water, Condicote, Guiting Temple, HawHng, Kingham, Naunton, Northleach, Rissington Great, Slaughter Upper, Slaughter Lower, Sherborne, Stow, Swell, Westcote, and from the Railway. There were 128 fresh applicants at the Dispensary. The former Institution, the old Bourton-on-the-Water and Cotswold Village Hospital ceased on the 29th September, 1879. From its commencement on 1st March, 1861, to its closure, it afforded relief to 691 in-patients, and to 3,800 out- patients. Of those admitted within its walls, 672 left cured or relieved, 15 died, and 4 were transferred to the new hospital. The total receipts were about £2,300, and total expenditure about £2,200. The average annual income was about £130, and the expenses about £125 per annum. During the year now under review it merged into the Bourton-on-the-Water Cottage Hospital, a plan, and elevation of which * appeared in the last annual Report. A full account of the opening ceremony having been already published, a brief abstract of the day's proceedings extracted from the committee's minute book, may suffice for * Furnished at private expense.
