About this work

Description

Ahalyā (Ahillya) was the beautiful wife of Gautama whom Indra seduced while her husband performed his early devotions. When Gautama learnt of the deception he cursed her to become invisible which was later lifted by Rāma. The composition served as the model for a panel on a silver vase (Dehejia, loc. cit.)
