Segment 1 The breast is exposed and punctured by a fine double-edged knife, and long needles containing 6 or 4mg of radium are passed parallel to each other at intervals of 2cm. Needles containing 2mg of radium are then inserted immediately around the tumour at intervals of 1.5cm, each needle being passed deeply into the mammary tissues. Needles of 2mg of radium are also placed in the breast. Time start: 00:00:00:00 Time end: 00:05:30:08 Length: 00:05:30:08
Segment 2 A needle of 2mg of radium is passed into each of the first four intercostal spaces. The needle is pushed to the sternum to lie between the bone and the lympatics. The threads on all of the needles are fixed to the skin and the area covered by sterile gauze. An intertitle explains the various doses of radium in the needles in this particular case. An x-ray of the area taken two days later with the needles in situ is shown. A series of drawings showing different cases before and after treatment is shown.
