Description

Mrs N. Stadlen remarks that the mother is writing a name, perhaps the name of her child, in the dust on the ground. A similar scene was illustrated by W.M. Craig in Beckford's Zadig, in which Zadig comes across Queen Astarte of Babylon tracing the name Zadig with a wand on the sand
