That this is the true account of the formation of the rainbow, appears from the following confiderations: 1, That a bow is never feen but when rain is falling and the fun fhining at the- fame time, and that the fun and bow are always in oppofite quarters of th^ heavens. This every one’s experience can teftifyt 2. That the fame appearance can be artificially reprefented by means of water thrown mto the air, when the fpedtatot is placed in a proper pofition with his back turned to the fun.
