    From the mur bers in this Table, it appears that the capacity of air for inoistiire doubles for a rise from 0° to 16°; from 16° to 33°; from 33° to 52°; from 5.2° to 73°; and from 73° to 96°; so that if the quantities of water held in solution be taken in a geometrical progression, the temperatures increase in a quicker ratio than the terms of an arithmetical progression. When the readings of the dry- and wet-bulb thermometers are alike, the weight of a cubic foot of vapour is at once taken from the numbers in Table VI. In all other cases as the quantity of vapour at the temperature of the dew- point expands in the same ratio as air, the weight of a cubic foot of vapour is calculated from the following formula :— Volume of temperature of dew-point x weight of a cubic foot of vapour at temperature of dew-point Weight of a cubic foot of vapoui'.
