About this work
Description
2011 marks the 75th anniversary of the first lobotomy in the US by neurosurgeon Walter Freeman. The procedure was so popular that he often performed ten such operations a day. It is estimated that 40,000 US and 17,000 UK patients were lobotomised during Freeman's heyday. This documentary focuses on the work of Freeman and two other key figures in the history of lobotomy: Egas Moniz and Wylie McKissock.
