Dr Fyfe, in composing it, ^ has not pre- sumed on any previous knowledge of the science in his pupils; he has laid aside every thing like technical phra- seology; he has made continual reference to familiar objects and to practical illustrations ; and he has thus written a book, which a mere child or the most illiterate mechanic may comprehend ; and which at the same time contains a great body of information no less sound and important than it is interesting.
