IN theprefent edition the old names of medicines heme been exchanged for thofe of the New Phar- macopoeia of the London college ; thofe now firjl ad- mitted into that Pharmacopeia inferled, with the ad- dition of a few not deemed by the college fuffciently e/labli/hed for that purpofe, though adopted into the private praclice offome eminent phyficiansy and of too much importance for a knowledge of them to be thought fuperfluous to any praclitioner ; thofe omit- ted by the college are expunged : the dofes have been carefully corrected from the bejl authorities ; in the treatment of difeafes fuch alterations have been made as later experience has approved; and a few have been added to the catalogue which were not noticed in the former editions.
