About this work

Description

Nepal; washing clothes in the scared Baghmati river, Pashupatinath, 1986. For local women, the river serves as a laundry while clean clothes are dried on the steps. Women also purify themselves in the river at the end of their menstrual cycles, after which they change into clean saris.
